Journey In Ink 知己。墨。若悟
A solo ink exhibition by Chi Pin Lay 紀濱麗, a child sponsor who just wants to do a bit more.
Journey in Ink 知己。墨。若悟" is a journey of self discovery through Chinese ink that documents my trips to World Vision communities in Cambodia, Myanmar, Jerusalem, Zambia and India during 2009-2014. My art works highlight the beauty of the rural landscape, the villagers and their animals.
The trips have taken me to places I have never dreamt of going. Chinese ink has become a medium for me to connect with my roots and to express the cultural diversity of these communities. It is with a sense of abundance, gratitude and joy as I finished each painting.
Through the exhibition, I hope you can experience the beauty of these communities and the joy of being a child sponsor. Help a child in the World Vision ADP make his or her dream come true. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of my art works will be donated to World Vision.
“I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” John 10:10

“A passionate educator and budding artist, Pin Lay has been an inspiring supporter since 2009. Pin Lay is also a person of excellence and outdoes herself at every project she has had for World Vision. She is wholeheartedly committed to helping the world's poorest children through World Vision."
-Foo Pek Hong (CEO World Vision International)
“Pin Lay’s art has progressed immensely since she first started painting 7 years ago. She has evolved her own unique style of Chinese-styled painting with water colours. It is a joy to see each new painting she does.” - Yee Jenn Jong, Non Constituency Member of Parliament and co-Founder, 360 Education Pte Ltd
“Adventure starts with taking the first step! Pin Lay have come a long way, but many children benefited. Even if it's just a brief moment, the importance is you have reached out and touched their hearts. You inspire me always.... Thank you, dear friend!” - Eileen Yee, GM, STA Travel
“Meeting and partnering with a World Vision supporter like Pin Lay reinforces the message of Hope. As a former World Vision sponsored child who have received a gift of Hope from a child sponsor, I feel deeply privileged to reach this point where I get to see both ends of child sponsorship - from my community of sponsored children to a community of child sponsors. Pin Lay always reminds me that in giving the giver and the receiver both share that opportunity to give something to each other, and that what makes giving life-changing."
- Ethel Pajao, a former sponsored child and now
Assistant Manager, Donor Engagement, World Vision Singapore
“The last few years had been especially meaningful and productive for Pin Lay. She has followed Jesus closely and found her passion and talent in art. Now she uses her art to praise the Lord and as an appreciation of God’s creation around us. Presently a semi professional artist, she uses art to reach out to the underprivileged. I trust that God will continue to guide and inspire Pin Lay and we will see many original works of art in the future.” - Mdm Mak Lai Ying, Principal, St. Anthony's Canossian Secondary School
Kirivong ADP, Cambodia 2012
Heritage
“This Journey in Ink has led me to know that God in His wisdom has plans for me. The doors of art kept opening.”
Her journey in ink has led her to realize that her artistic inclinations are from her late maternal grandfather, Mr Gan Tiong Huat,
who used to bring her mother and aunts to paint by the Esplanade. He was one of the adopted sons of Mr Gan Eng Seng, a pioneer and philanthropist of Singapore, who amongst many other contributions, built a bilingual school for poor children in 1885.
World Vision
She has been a volunteer with World Vision since 2009.
Pin Lay has 6 sponsored children from Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, Jerusalem and Zambia. Gallery@OURF is a social initiative by OURF Consultancy LLP.
My motivation from the Bible:
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” - James 1: 17
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
- Matthew 25:31-46
“Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matt 19:14
